It’s been a while since this topic has been addressed to our hosted sites but, it is worth bringing up occasionally as scammer efforts seem to be at an all-time high.

Be sure that when you receive an email stating that a service we are providing you needs your interaction, you check the address the email is coming from. And I’m not simply referring to the name your email program may be displaying either. The displayed email address can often be a simple nickname and would commonly be a way to shorten the address on screen simply. If you click on the “From” address in the email header, you should be able to see the actual address:

Example of a fake email and its content:

From: WebHost Manager© | jeff@dsshosting.net <noreply-notice@carstar.com.ua> <– They are NOT related!!!
Subject: Your Domain Subscription Failed

Any email you receive regarding your hosting will come from a recognizable address. Be it from dsshosting.net, enom.com, or as a notification from cPanel.

Remember: You will never be asked to provide login information, your services with dsshosting are not dependent on unknown outside services, your email will never expire or need any interaction from you to keep it functional, and all emails from our service will either give instructions for you to log in yourself to perform or inform you of an action taken that affects your service package. We will NEVER send an email stating action is needed and require you to click on a link to do so.

Protect yourself and always be suspicious of emails sent that ask you to click on a link or open a file that you were not expecting. If you receive one that you think may be for a service we offer, come to the site and reach out to one of us about it. Most likely if you need to ask, it’s fake.
